AIKEN, S.C. -- A Columbia man is behind bars in Aiken County after a shoplifting incident at the Walmart on Whiskey Road.
The Aiken Department of Public Safety says Melvin Burton shoplifted about $1,000 worth of merchandise, mainly electronics, Wednesday morning.
Police say Burton ran from the scene when Walmart workers approached his vehicle.
Numerous officers then combed the woods in south Aiken until Burton was eventually captured and arrested on Powderhouse Road without incident.
Burton was booked into the Aiken County Detention Center Wednesday afternoon.
