UPDATE: Suspect arrested, charged with DUI after moped driver seriously injured in Aiken hit-and-run

AIKEN, S.C. -- The suspect in a hit-and-run on Tuesday night has been arrested and charged with felony DUI.

Anthony Ray Martin of North Carolina is being held in the Aiken County Detention Center and is also charged with leaving the scene of an accident resulting in great bodily injury.

The 27-year-old was allegedly driving southbound on Whiskey Road when he crossed the center line and hit a moped.

The moped driver, 47-year-old Tammy Lynn Mitchell, was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Witnesses say they saw Martin speeding away after the accident.

The accident happened around 10:30 p.m. near Boardman Road.

The Aiken Department of Public Safety Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident.
