AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- A Sears store and Sears Auto Center in Aiken will close in late April because its lease was not renewed, Director of Corporate Communications of Sears Holdings said.

The store will begin its liquidation sale on Feb. 7, Howard Riefs said. Store closures are to try and reduce on-going expenses and adjust the asset base.

The store in Aiken has 54 employees, Riefs said.

The eligible associates will receive severance and have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Sears or Kmart stores, Riefs said.
