AIKEN COUNTY (WRDW) -- Aiken County Councilwoman Kathy Rawls, who represents the eastern portion of the county including Wagener, announced today she's switching from being a Democrat to a Republican.

"The Democratic Party has left me, I'm not leaving it," said Rawls, according to a Facebook post by South Carolina Representative Bill Taylor.

Rawls made the announcement this morning, before a group of public officials at the Wagener Town Hall.

Taylor also says that he does not "view her decision as switching political parties; instead it's a public acknowledgment of her Conservative political beliefs of limited government and frugality. She personifies public service and dedication to her constituents."
