Aiken Co. probate judge facing ethics violations

Friday, March 22, 2013

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. -- The recently-reelected Aiken County probate judge has been found to be in violation of the Ethics Reform Act.

The State Ethics Commission says Probate Judge Sue Roe used the courthouse address and telephone number on her campaign materials.

Section 8-13-765(A) states: "No person may use government personnel, equipment, materials or an office building in an election campaign."

Roe admitted that the address and phone number was used on her campaign materials but said it was a mistake made by her campaign. According to the complaint, the errors were corrected immediately.

The Ethics Commission has given her a written warning, fined her $100 and asked her to study the Ethics Reform Act.

Earlier this year, Roe asked lawmakers to scrap the office's party affiliation.
