Accident kills 1, puts 4 others in hospital

ORANGEBURG, S.C. (WRDW) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident on I-26 W at MM 156 at 3:17 a.m.

The car's tire blew out, the driver lost control and the car overturned in the roadway, said Lance Corporal Judd Jones.

A passenger died on the scene. Troopers said the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time. The driver had minor injuries, but four other passengers in the car were taken to the hospital. A 9-year-old and 14-year-old were both airlifted with serious injuries. Two 19-year-old passengers were also taken to the hospital.

The accident remains under investigation.
