Tree crushes car, blocks road

September 13, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---A tree fell and crushed a car in downtown Augusta this evening. It happened at 215 Ellis Street, knocking out the power at one house and pulling down some phone lines.

Crews were on the scene trying to get it all cleaned up, and deputies had to direct traffic since the tree was blocking the road.

One man saw the whole thing from his car.

"I've seen trees fall, but never this big," Kwandale Stamps said. He says it's not the first time he's seen something like this along Ellis Street. Stamps says the neighborhood has seen plenty of storm damage like this over the years.
