Longtime James Brown friend, partner dies of cancer

Bobby Byrd, longtime friend and singing partner of James Brown, lost his battle with cancer at age 73.

Byrd was the leader of the group the Avons. After Brown joined, they were eventually called James Brown and the Famous Flames.

Byrd's voice can be heard on James Brown's famous "Get Up Sex Machine". Byrd also sang at Brown's funeral in 2006.
