Sex offender receives reduced sentence in appeal

September 12, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---Carlton Johnson was back in court today after winning a bid for an appeal. He entered a guilty plea and received a reduced sentence of eight years, with seven years probation.

Johnson was convicted of molesting a 14-year-old boy and his sister. At the time he was volunteering at Good Shepherd Baptist Church.

He was sentenced to ten years in prison and ten years probation after his first trial, and has served about four years of that sentence. With his new sentence, he will be in jail for about four more years.

The victims' family was pleased with Judge Carlisle Overstreet's decision.
