EDGEFIELD CTY, S.C.---A missing 700 pound church bell has been found.
Edgefield County investigators think they know who stole a 700 pound bell Friday, to sell for scrap.
It hasn't made a sound in quite some time, but church members say the 100-year-old bell that sat behind Pleasant Lane Baptist was important.
The bell was removed when a new church was built on the same grounds.
Deacon Lonnie Gordon says he rang the bell many times over his 76 years as a member of the church.
Plans were to build a new housing for it, until it was taken on Friday night.
Lonnie looks over the spot where 700 pounds of iron bell once stood, ready to bring the familiar piece back home.
The same people are suspected in other metal thefts. Church members will get the bell from the scrap yard in the morning.
