Belvedere, SC--- A Belvedere woman is without a home, after a fire Thursday. It happened on Audubon Circle. Several animals had to be buried by firefighters after Thursday's fire. Grace Whaley, who is in her 60's was not home when the fire started at about noon.

Belvedere, Bath, North Augusta, Aiken County, Sage Mill, and Merriwether Fire Departments all worked together to put the fire out, but the home is a total loss. Assistant Belvedere Fire Chief Danny Ford said no one was hurt, but several animals died. He said Aiken County Animal Control and several firefighters helped bury two dogs, a cat, and some birds in Whaley's yard.

"She was just a wonderful woman and this is such a tragedy and we just pray that she's somewhere safe and she's alright," neighbor, Carla Newman said.

Belvedere Assistant Fire Chief Danny Ford said the fire started in the den. He said the room was burned so bad that the case has been turned over to the Aiken County Sheriff's Department.

Lt. Michael Frank with the Aiken County Sheriff's Department, said the investigation will start Tuesday to determine the cause of the fire.
