Jasper County sheriff killed in accident

The Jasper County sheriff was killed this afternoon in an accident in Bamberg County.

Authorities say Sheriff Ben Riley died after the pickup he was driving was hit by another vehicle near Erhardt.

The coroner says Riley was not wearing his seatbelt. He was ejected and died at the scene at around 3:30 pm.

The 60-year-old sheriff was running errands in his personal pickup truck.

No charges have been filed, but officers are investigating.
