AUGUSTA, Ga.---Castleberry's Human Resources Director, Bob Bowen, tells News 12 that 13 full-time employees at the Augusta Castleberry's plant were let go Friday (August 24). Officials say this is part of company downsizing. The company would not comment on whether more layoffs were coming.
The Castleberry's plant is closed at least until October. The company says full production will be phased in over several months. They released the following statement: "Castleberry’s continues to work with government agencies to review in detail every process in our plant so that we can return to production. We remain optimistic that we can be up and running again by October and look forward to bringing our employees back to work. Because a return to pre-recall production levels would take some time, we have notified about a dozen salaried employees that their services will not be needed for the foreseeable future. As we get closer to a re-start of production we will have a better view of staff requirements."
