Missing Greenville hiker found

August 22, 2007

WALHALLA, SC (AP) - A man missing for more than a day in the mountains of Oconee County has been found.

55-year-old Mike Shain was found late Thursday morning.

Officials say Shain managed to use his cell phone to call 911 around 7pm Tuesday and told dispatchers he was lost. They hadn't been able to reach him for more than 24 hours, perhaps because of spotty cell phone service.

Rescuers searched a ten-mile area along the Foothills Trail near the North Carolina state line.

Friends say Shain is a financial planner and his wife is a Greenville City Councilwoman.
