On Your Side: Reselling Recalls

From chili to dog food to toys, there have almost been too many recalls to count lately.

The products have been pulled from store's shelves, but there are still ways they could end up in your home.

You make sure they're out of home and you make sure you don't buy them at the store. But you can still get them in other places and you might not even realize they're a danger to you and your family.

Toys like the ones that were recalled by Fisher Price at the beginning of August, sometimes pop up on auction sites like Ebay.

Ebay does prohibit people selling recalled products, but that doesn't mean some don't slip through the cracks occasionally.
And it's not just the ones you hear about on the news, there are many more that don't make the front pages, but still can be a danger.

A recent study tracked 141 recalled items on an auction site; everything from play yards to baby walkers. The study says about 70% of those were sold, most of which probably went to people who had no clue as what they were buying had been deemed dangerous.

Unfortunately that means you may need to be doing more homework if you're going to be buying your child toys online on auction sites.
You should probably keep up better with the Consumer Product Safety Commission's website to know what is being recalled and what isn't. You can do that by going to http://www.cpsc.gov/cpsclist.aspx
