Local Update - August 6, 2007

Waynesboro Deadly Shooting Investigation
Agents with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations are investigating a deadly shooting in the 1400 block of Westgate Drive in Waynesboro.
It happened around 10:45 Sunday night when multiple shots were fired.
Investigators tell us a 16 year-old died on the scene.
His name has not been released yet.
News 12 has also learned this same 16 year-old was shot 3 weeks ago in a seperate incident.
Right now, there's no word on any suspects in this case.

Car Chase ends in Crash; Deputy Dragged
A car chase ends with a Richmond County deputy shooting a man on the run.
Investigators say it all started at Tubman Home Road and Tudor Drive in Augusta.
A witness tells News 12, a deputy pulled the driver over for speeding and found he'd been drinking and had warrants for his arrest.
The deputy somehow got caught in the vehicle and the driver pulled away, dragging the deputy with it.
The deputy then shot the driver once in the arm to get away.
The car went a few blocks before the driver jumped out and started running.
The car then hit a school.

Back to School Schedule
Children in McDuffie county are getting ready for their first day this morning.
Burke and Lincoln counties start August 7th.
August 10th, kids in Jefferson and Warren counties and those who go to Murphey Charter School in Richmond County head back to class.
August 13th, the rest of Richmond and Columbia counties join the list.
Aiken, Edgefield, and Saluda counties go back to school August 20th.

Today's Back to School Events
Richmond County Schools are preparing students for the new school year.
Here's a look at the events going on today.
The Academy of Richmond County will hold a freshman orientation from 1 to 6 pm today.
Hephzibah High School will hold a session for new students today from 8:15 to 11:30, with a 9 am session for parents.
Parents and students are welcome to come out to the freshman orientation at Laney High School tonight at 6.
It will be in the music building.

School Supply Give-away
Rhema connections will give out free school supplies to children in need this morning.
Just head on over to Macedona Baptist Church today from 10 am to 2 pm to get in on their annual back to school drive.
If you're child needs a haircut, you can get that too.
Local barbers will be on hand to provide haircuts for boys ages 3 to 17.
Hair accessories will be available for girls.
