Augusta, GA---Three innocent bystanders became victims in a shooting Tuesday night near the Castleberry's plant. It happened at the corner of Bleakly and Carver streets in the Cherry Tree Crossing neighborhood. One victim was shot in the back of the neck, two others hit in the leg. Now one of the victims speaks out about a senseless crime she says that should never have taken place.
"I'm 6.5 weeks pregnant if I was shot in my stomach or my chest and if I lost my baby who would've taken the blame for it?" asked, Danyel Jones. You can imagine, the young mother's outrage after flying bullets hit her not once, not twice but three times in her legs with her one year old son by her side. "My baby was terrified that shouldn't have happened," she said.
Richmond County Investigators say she was among three innocent victims caught in the line of fire Tuesday night. 19-year-old Danyel Jones and her friend Tierra were walking to the store when they saw two groups fighting. "As we were walking they were arguing and we heard gunshots as we were running my legs got weak i looked down and realized oh shoot, I'm shot, I'm shot", she said. Two days later investigators still don't have any clues as to who pulled the trigger but in a neighborhood all too familiar with crime, Danyel says something needs to be done. "They say Southside and Jennings Homes is bad but if you got to walk down the street and get shot for nothing? That's just stupid." she said.
Family members of the other 16-year-old girl who was shot is said to be doing okay, although she does have a broken leg and remains in the hospital. At last check, the other victim 22-year-old Derek Gardner was in critical but stable condition.
