AUGUSTA, Ga.---The rain didn't stop the thousands of people who lined downtown Augusta but businesses are the ones really enjoying the green.
Welcome to a green-themed downtown Augusta. For many families the Irish holiday is all about family.
"We're all excited because it's family heritage, Irish heritage. That's what it's all about, just to come out and celebrate," says Amanda Hasty.
For others, it's about cashing in. "I've got all the St. Patty's day stuff, I've got boas and I've got hats," says vendor John Shaw.
It's the fine finishing touches that make St. Patrick's Day so much fun.
"I just love the green," adds Lasand Robinson.
Businesses are hoping the parade will keep people downtown.
"Hopefully people with a full pocket of money will come out and spend a little bit of money and have a good time," says 1102 Bar and Grille Owner Sae Shin.
If the bag pipes and candy don't get people spending, he hopes one other treat might do the trick. "We do have green beer," adds Shin.
"Local bars will be packed, it's just a good time to come out and spend the day," says Shaw.
