Drayton pleads not guilty to murder

The former student convicted of stabbing his teacher more than 70 times eight years ago has pleaded not guilty to murder charges.

22-year-old David Drayton, dressed in green, was arraigned at a hearing yesterday. He's charged with murdering his teacher, Linda Gail Hendrick.

Hendrick died in May after being in a coma for nearly eight years.

Week-long Augusta drug roundup

165 people were arrested in a week-long Richmond County drug roundup on various charges, most related to selling drugs. Deputies also found $10,000 in cash, a vehicle and a meth lab in a motel.

Louisville man missing

Police need your help finding a missing Louisville man. 64-year-old Luella Lovett, Jr. was last seen driving to Dublin to pick up a 2006 burgundy Nissan Sentra. His wife says he was headed back on Highway 16.

Lovett has been missing for a day now. If you have any information or have seen him, please call the Burke County Sheriff's Office at 706-554-2133.

Commission approves tax increase

Augusta commissioners have voted for a tax increase. Property taxes will increase by a quarter of a mill. That's about $9 extra on a $100,000 home. It should add up to $750,000 to the general fund.
