AUGUSTA, Ga. -- An 18-year-old has been arrested one day after a man was shot to death on Luckey Street, investigators said Sunday.

Curtis Lamont Carter was arrested around 6 p.m. in the Meadowbrook area near Deans Bridge Road, investigators said. He had been wanted for murder, along with possession of a firearm during a crime.

Scotty Mathis, 40, of Vandivere Road was shot several times Saturday afternoon, Mark Bowen with the Richmond County Coroner's Office said in an e-mail. He was pronounced dead at MCG at 3:25 p.m.. His body has been sent to the GBI crime lab for an autopsy.

Investigators named Carter a suspect shortly after the shooting and considered him armed and dangerous.

News 12 has learned Carter was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm in 2008. Carter pleaded down to simple assault and discharging a firearm.
