On Your Side: BOA announces partial end to overdraft fees
People who use a debit cards and don't have money in their account to cover what they buy won't be charged overdraft fees. Instead of charging customers, the bank will deny the purchase.

It was a small announcement from Bank of America, but it could have a huge impact
People who use a debit cards and don't have money in their account to cover what they buy won't be charged overdraft fees. Instead of charging customers, the bank will deny the purchase.
If you're withdrawing from an ATM and you don't have the money you'll be asked whether you want to be charged.
You can still opt in to overdraft protection for a fee by linking to another account.
The bank will start the program for new accounts in June and for existing accounts in August.
Banks sometimes debit a large purchase first -- meaning other, smaller buys, could creates fees if the account is overdrawn.
Citi had previously announced changes, and some experts believe other banks will follow.
