In this Family Fraud Alert, the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs is asking small businesses owners to be aware of grant scams.

One scam that's making the rounds is one in which a person or business is asked to sign-up and then pay for a seminar.

The seminar then provides them with grant information that can be gathered for free from the government.

Other times, people pay up-front fees for information on grants that they will never receive.

The best thing to remember is that government grant information is free and you never need to pay up-front fees to get them.
