US Senators in Augusta

News 12 has confirmed the US Senate committee on veterans affairs is coming to Augusta.

The senate passed a Wounded Warrior bill recently calling for collaboration between the Department of Defense and the VA, something that's already happening in Augusta.

Broun sworn in

It was a big day in Washington for Dr. Paul Broun. He was sworn in as Georgia's newest Congressman in the US House of Representatives.

Broun was surrounded by members of Georgia's legislative delegation as House speaker Nancy Pelosi read him the oath.

Broun, a Republican from the Athens area, defeated former state Senator Jim Whitehead of Evans by fewer than 400 votes.

House members applauded at the mention of Charlie Norwood's name, the late Congressman from Augusta who was also a doctor.

Trial date set for man accused of killing mother

A trial date is set for an Aiken man who police say killed his mother and then walked his daughter down the aisle at her wedding in Kentucky.

Prosecutor Barbara Morgan says 58-year-old Craig Baldwin knows the difference between right and wrong and is competent to stand trial. That trial is set for November 12.

Neighbors found the body of 83-year-old Dale Baldwin covered with a blanket in the bushes on her front lawn in Aiken in June of last year.

A day after his mother's body was found, Craig Baldwin walked his daughter down the aisle at her wedding in Lexington, Kentucky.
