BURKE CTY, Ga.---If you hear a strange noise this afternoon in Burke County, it is probably a test being run at Plant Vogtle. The test is done on the containment structure and is performed about every 10 years.
They bring in 14 large diesel powered compressors are fill the structure with compressed air. This is done to check that there are no leaks or seepage within the structure.
This morning, they have filled the structure. They are in the process of checking for the leaks or vulnerabilities. They tell News 12 that to this point they have never found any.
Once the check is complete, they will release the air which will cause the squealing, vibration noise, almost like an airplane.
