Hephzibah makes motion to fire commissioner

July 17, 2007

HEPHZIBAH, Ga.---The city of Hephzibah is asking a judge to force one of its commissioners out of office.

Paperwork was filed this afternoon in superior court in the case of Peter Ciccio. He's the commissioner indicted on theft charges by a Richmond County jury.

Ciccio pled guilty to purchasing a stolen tractor. He was placed on probation and ordered to pay restitution, but he refused to step down from the city commission.

If a judge agrees with the motion, Ciccio would be removed from office pending his final appeal of the case.
