Communities in Schools group promotes abstinence

July 16, 2007

AUGUSTA, Ga.---Abstinence lays the foundation to a better life. That's the message of the Communities in Schools group.

Their mission is to empower young people to abstain from sex, drugs, alcohol, and gang violence.

They've planned several events for the month to motivate young people.

Today they met at the Oasis de Benediction on Deans Bridge Road, and pastor Angel Maestre tells News 12 more education is needed.

"Oh my God it is important, because our kids are getting trapped in all this stuff, because they don't have the knowledge and they don't know what's going on, how dangerous, how hot is the streets, so here we are teaching them," he said.

The church is holding a Bible camp this week. It is open to the public.

There were 47 children in attendance today.
