COLUMBIA, S.C.---The first phase of Thomas Ravenel's trial is scheduled. Jury selection will begin on September 5.
The former South Carolina state treasurer pleaded not guilty last week on a federal drug charge.
Officials say the charge of Conspiracy to Possess Cocaine with Intent to Distribute does not mean they believe he intended to sell the drug, but instead share it with his friends.
The trial date will be announced after jury selection.
Ravenel faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
