EVANS, Ga. --- News 12 has uncovered new information about a man hit and killed in Evans over the weekend. Sixty-five-year-old retired dentist Reamer Allmond was staying in a nearby personal care home and walked away.

Police cars and flashing lights lined the intersection of Belair and Cox Road where sixty-five-year-old Dr. Reamer Allmond was hit and killed by a Jeep.

Dr. Allmond was a well-known Augusta dentist, and trying to cross the street at the time. The driver had a green light and is not facing any charges.

News 12 has new information that Dr. Allmond was staying in Nancy Hall's personal care home and walked away just before being hit. He had been staying there for less than a week.

News 12 tried to talk with the company, but they had no comment.

News 12 also reached out to Dr. Allmond's family, who insist the care facility did nothing wrong. They say his leaving was something that had happened before. The family calls it a tragic incident that couldn't have been prevented.

Dr. Allmond was a registered member of Project Life Saver, a Columbia County initiative designed to help people who are prone to walk off.

We're told the home called 911 once they found out Dr. Allmond was missing.

Here's how the bracelet works: once the call is placed that a loved one is missing, the signal is sent from dispatch, letting them know to activate the bracelet's GPS tracking device.

Columbia County investigators tell News 12 the investigation into what happened is still open. The driver of the vehicle will not be charged in this crash.

News 12 looked into Nancy Hall personal care home and uncovered that they've recently had some inspection violations. Those included not having enough staff members trained in first aid, emergency evacuation and CPR.

The family stresses that they do not blame the home, and say they did nothing wrong.
