Edgefield, SC--- A fire rips through the Senior Center in Edgefield Thursday night. It happened around 11 p.m. when a volunteer firefighter spotted the blaze on his way home from work. The firefighter immediately turned around and headed back to the fire station and called 911 but officials say it was already too late.
The Edgefield County Senior Citizen Center building houses several offices including the Veterans Affairs.
A firefighter was injured when a part of the roof collapsed on top of him but officials say he suffered from a sprained ankle and was released early Friday morning.
The Senior Center hopes to have their meals on wheels program and transportation services back up and running by early next week.
The cause of the fire is now being investigated by SLED.
