Local Update - July 4, 2007

4th Celebrations
The Riverwalk Series will present the annual "Star Spangled Concert" at St. Paul's Church before the Riverwalk fireworks display.
In Grovetown, they'll have the annual community barbecue with entertainment and door prizes from noon to 3:00 pm.
In Columbia County, there'll be games and fireworks at Patriots Park from 4:00 pm until dark.
There'll also be be fireworks at Augusta Commons and 8th Street at 9:30 pm.

Fireworks Injure Augusta Teen
An Augusta teenager will never be the same after losing his thumb while handling fireworks.
The fire department says he was holding the explosives while he lit them, and they went off in his hand.
Firefighters were called out to Furgol and East Cedar Street Monday.
That's where they found 13 year-old Melvin Mitchell sitting there with a towel covering his hand.

Teens Charged with Arson after Using Fireworks
This morning, 2 Augusta teens are in some serious trouble because of fireworks.
Police say they threw two canisters of lit sparklers through the window of a home on Kingsgate Drive.
There were people in the house at the time, and there was some fire and smoke damage.
The youths are charged with first degree arson.

Extra Troopers Out for Holiday
Extra eyes will be watching you on the roads this holiday.
Extra troopers are trying to keep you safe.
This morning, Georgia Troopers predict more than one thousand traffic crashes, more than 400 injuries, and six deaths over the holiday travel period.

Murder-Suicide Update
A registered nurse is dead this morning, shot and killed by her former boyfriend who also turned the gun on himself.
It happened early Monday night at 1015 Tradd Court.
That's where investigators found 49 year-old Marcia Wood and 64 year-old Robert Asmann dead.

10th District Debate
In two weeks, we'll know who will run Georgia's 10-th Congressional District.
The runoff takes place July 17th.
Next Monday night, the two candidates will meet in a statewide debate on Georgia Public TV.
It'll be on at 7:00 p-m with Candidates Paul Broun and Jim Whitehead.
