Aiken CO., SC---A woman from El Salvador living in North Augusta died in a morning crash. It happened just before 8 a.m. at Sudlow Lake Road and Old Sudlow Lake Road.

The noisy sounds of traffic passing through on Sudlow Lake Road are all Miriam Everidge hears in the mornings. "When we first moved here we could hear the frogs and crickets and now it's car after car starting at 3:30 - 4:00 a.m." she said. Her house sits right on the corner of the intersection and in the last 20 years she says she's seen a lot of fender benders on the road. "People are bad about stopping at the stop sign, they just hesitate and go on and with them flying down the road you know what's gonna happen there's gonna be an accident," Everidge said. It's why she says she wasn't surprised when she looked out her window and saw emergency crews blocking off the road. 29-year-old Maria Rosa Rivas was pronounced dead on the scene after troopers say she pulled out infront of a truck. "Nobody even knew the car was out there because the truck was on top of it in the ditch across the street," she said.

The coroner says Rivas died of multiple body trauma from the accident she was on her way to work when it happened. "It looked like a piece of tin someone took a hammer to and beat up," Everidge said describing Rivas Chevy Cavalier, and now she hopes this tragedy will shed some light on a growing problem in the neighborhood. "People are usually on their way to work when they pass through here and they're speeding there's no way for one of those trucks to stop," she said.

Everidge tells hopes to see a blinking traffic light go up at the intersection to warn drivers to slow down in the area. Toxicology reports are still pending in this investigation. Rivas marks the 24th fatality so far this year in Aiken County.
