East Augusta grocery robbed at gunpoint

AUGUSTA, Ga.---A grocery store was robbed in east Augusta early this morning.

Investigators say two armed men walked into the Thriftee Supermarket on the 200 block of Sandbar Ferry Road this morning demanding money. The suspects were wearing masks and black clothes.

One of the suspects grabbed the owner's wife and choked her nearly to unconsciousness, then threw her to the floor. The other suspect threw the owner to the floor.

The robbers took money and ran off toward Magnolia Avenue.

The owner and his wife did not sustain any injuries.
