NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.---A man was carjacked in his own parking lot at an apartment complex in North Augusta. Two men approached another man at Plaza Place off Martintown Road and took his car at gunpoint.
Deputies in neighboring Richmond County recovered the car, a 2006 Hyundai Elantra, but law enforcement officials are still looking for the carjackers.
Then, about an hour later at around 10 o'clock, a second carjacking occurred at The Rapids subdivision, also off Martintown Road. A 2006 maroon, four-door Toyota Tundra pickup truck was taken from a man's driveway at Post Oak Lane.
Neither victim was injured, and North Augusta Police Chief Lee Wetherington told News 12 both victims reacted in the best possible way: "In both cases the victims did absolutely the right thing. Give up the cars, give up the keys, let 'em go. You can always replace a car; you can always replace a vehicle. Tragically, that's not always the outcome."
The Toyota Tundra is still missing, as are the carjackers. The suspects are described as two black males, age 18-30. One of the suspects was wearing a black New York Yankees hat and white and gray camouflage pants.
