AUGUSTA---Chiquita Johnson, Augusta's General Counsel, has resigned.
She tells News 12 she cleared out her office on Friday afternoon.
Johnson had worked for Augusta for a little more than a year.
The department had recently come under fire for some questionable spending.
The question becomes is there a double standard? We got our hands on Augusta's Sam's Club expense report.
The city attorney was forced to resign after, among other things, questionable spending at Sam's. She spent $4,700 on redecorating her office. Animal control spent more than $5,000 dollars this year at Sam's. No complaints. Parks and Recreation spent more than $48,000. Commissioners say it was time for the city attorney to go.
"Because she was incompetent," proclaimed commissioner Don Grantham. "She dealt us situations that we could not vote for...that we could not accept."
