AUGUSTA, Ga--Augusta-Richmond County is receiving an $8,105,000 loan from the Georgia Environmental Facilities Authority.
The loan will help finance the replacement of the main interceptor sewer line leading to the Messerly Wastewater Treatment Plant off Doug Barnard Parkway near the airport.
Augusta will pay 3% interest rate on the 20-year loan. The total project
cost is $8,105,000, with the authority providing the entire amount.
Governor Sonny Perdue announced the loan during a visit to the city
Friday.
He said, "Infrastructure improvements increase quality of life for Georgia citizens, and they help cities and counties create jobs and promote economic development."
The Messerly plant is the city's primary wastewater treatment facility.
According to the city web site, it treats approximately 34,000,000 gallons of raw sewage daily from the collection system.
