AUGUSTA -- Augusta commissioners have approved a plan to build a Trade, Exhibit and Event Center in downtown Augusta.

Commissioners passed the plan during a special-called meeting this morning. The vote was 7-1-1 with Mayor Pro Tem Alvin Mason voting "No" and Commissioner Betty Beard abstaining.

In passing the T.E.E. Center, commissioners also approved a redevelopment plan for neighborhoods along Laney Walker Boulevard.

News 12's Chris Thomas is following this story today. He'll have more information later this afternoon.
