Local Update - May 30, 2007

Infectious Flight?
We have a health alert this morning for people who may have taken a recent international flight to Paris. A Georgia man, with a rare and very dangerous form of tuberculosis, was on a flight May 12. He's now under quarantine in Atlanta. The man traveled on Air France flight 385 from Atlanta to Paris. He returned on Czech Air flight 104 from Prague to Montreal on May 24. If you were on one of those flights, you need to see a doctor.

Augusta Attack
One person is recovering this morning at University Hospital after being pistol whipped.
It happened at the River Glen Apartments on East Telfair Street just before 10 p.m. Tuesday. No word on the victim's condition or any arrest in that case.

Fire Investigation
A Columbia County family will have to search for a new home this morning after theirs burns to the ground on Windmill Lane. Nobody was home Tuesday night when the fire broke out, but the fire did a lot damage to the home. This morning, the cause of the fire is under investigation

Graduation Schedule
Today, a number of graduation ceremonies will be held at the James Brown Arena. Westside grads will be the first to cross the stage at 9 a.m. They will be followed by students from A.R.C. at 11 a.m. Davidson is scheduled for 1:30 p.m., followed by Butler at 3:30 p.m., and Cross Creek at 5:30 p.m.

New GA Primary date
Georgia will play an earlier role in the presidential elections. Tuesday, Governor Sonny Perdue signed a bill that moves the primary elections up about a month. Instead of March 4th, they'll be Feb. 5. It's a move by several states to create a National Primary Day. Florida moved its primary to Jan. 29, the same day as South Carolina's.
