Columbia County shuts off restriction violators' water

May 25, 2007

APPLING, Ga. (AP) -- Officials in Columbia County now get five to ten calls a day from neighbors reporting neighbors for water violations.

Sick of people ignoring the rules, the county is disconnecting the water for those violators who ignore the restrictions three times.

So far, almost 50 households have had water disconnected this drought season because of violating the rules.

Margaret Doss is the water quality manager in Columbia County. She says the county hates to punish its customers. But she adds, "The drought is significant and it has to be handled properly."
