AUGUSTA, Ga.---Gov. Perdue has signed two bills into law. One affects Augusta Commission seats up for election this year and in 2009. Those who win those seats will serve three-year terms.
Then the next election cycles for those seats will result in four-year terms.
The idea is to make sure all Commission seats are up for election in even-numbered years, which usually means a bigger voter turnout.
A similar new law affects the city marshal's election in 2009.
