BEECH ISLAND, S.C.---16-year-old Andrew House from North Augusta was killed in a wreck this morning.
The teen was driving on Highway 278/Sand Bar Ferry Road when his 1999 Dodge Ram truck struck a column under the Atomic Road bridge. South Carolina state troopers responded within three minutes, but it was already too late to save him.
The North Augusta High School student was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy was performed this morning. Excessive speed is considered to be a factor in the accident. Though the truck was engulfed in flames when troopers arrived, the fire did not contribute to House's death.
This is the 18th fatal crash in Aiken County this year.
