AIKEN, S.C. (WRDW) -- A 76-year-old man allegedly shot a person trying to break into his home with his .357 Magnum caliber Colt revolver on Wednesday, according to an Aiken County Sheriff's Office incident report.

The man said he heard the front door window shatter and went down stairs to find someone reaching inside to unlock the door, the report said. The man fired his gun and believed he hit the subject in the hand.

The man said he later found his car door open and one window smashed in, the report said. He said nothing was missing from his car.

Several deputies and Aiken Department of Public Safety officers searched the area and did not find the subject.
