Many of the business owners who rented out space in the flea market building that burned to the ground Monday are scrambling right now because they did not have insurance.
There's a lesson here for all of us.
Many of you are renters, be it an apartment or a house.
One of the most important decisions you can ever make is to get renters insurance to protect your valuables. It will protect you in case of fire, robbery and storm damage.
You may not realize it, but your landlord's insurance will almost never cover the stuff you own on the inside of the structure. Typical landlord's insurance just covers the actual building.
You may not think you own much, but imagine the cost of replacing your couch, your table, your bed and your clothes...chances are it would be a pretty expensive.
And insurance is not that expensive...maybe just $10 or $20 a month.
You may say you can't afford it, but considering the cost of replacing your stuff...can you afford not to?
