74-year-old woman driving RTV killed in Saluda accident

SALUDA, S.C. (WRDW) -- The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal accident involving an RTV.

It happened on Pecan Grove Road near Padgett Pond Road Monday around 4:20 p.m.

Officials say 74-year-old Betty Ann Havird was driving a Kubota RTV 900 when she was killed in an accident with a 2007 Saturn.

Officials say both vehicles were heading north on Padgett Pond Road in Saluda County. They say 27-year-old Candace Hopkins was driving the Saturn. Hopkins tried to pass Havrid as Havrid was turning left. Officials say that's when the RTV turned left in front of the car.

Havird was thrown from the RTV and died at the scene.

Hopkins and her five passengers were all properly restrained and were not injured.
