GRANITEVILLE, S.C.---The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office today arrested an Aiken teenager, who sent a series of electronic mail to a student threatening to carry out acts of violence at Midland Valley High School, in Graniteville, South Carolina.

Aaron K. Steele, 17, of Sunshine Circle, Aiken, South Carolina, is charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Person Under 21, Unlawful Possession of Prescription Drugs and Disturbing Schools.

“We acted immediately this morning when we received the information,” said Sheriff Michael Hunt. “The school district followed its plan and moved promptly to place Midland Valley in lock-down. The young lady who received these messages displayed great courage in coming forward with this information,” he added.

At 9:45 a.m., ACSO arrested the subject at his home. Investigators served a search warrant and recovered a handgun under the subject’s bed. They also seized a personal computer, which will be analyzed by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

The subject is being held at the Aiken County Detention Center.
