AUGUSTA, Ga.---A young father was gunned down right in front of his apartment early yesterday morning. Now Richmond County deputies are searching for his killer.

22-year-old Robert Anthony Love died after being shot three times at the Greens on Washington apartment complex on Washington Road.

The first 48 hours are crucial in solving any crime. That's why Richmond County investigators are waiting no time trying to find out who killed Robert Love and why. Richmond County's Major Case Squad was out in full force today.

"We're back to the basics," said Sgt. Richard Roundtree. "Back at the crime scene and interviewing neighbors and witnesses and making them aware, and we found a lot of people at the apartment complex were unaware a murder had occurred in their own neighborhood."

"We were moving out before this, but this is going to push us along," said neighbor Anthony Chrisone. "We're getting out of here."

But Robert wasn't as lucky.

Investigators say he was out with family that Friday night and was dropped off by a relative around 5 am Saturday morning.

That relative says he last saw Robert Love walking towards his home in the 1015 building.

At some point a fight broke out between Robert and one suspect in front of the bushes.

One neighbor heard it all from his bedroom.

"Heard soft talk at first, then it got louder and louder, and an argument started," the man said. "Then all of the sudden pop pop pop."

He ran to his window and saw Robert Love fighting for his life.

"I looked out my window and saw a guy standing over him and smacking him with a gun. I called 911, and when I looked back he was gone."

Now this neighbor wishes he could have done more to help investigators bring Robert's killer to justice.

"Wish I had been more awake, so I could hear what they were talking about to help identify the person, because I never seen his face."

Now that Robert Love is gone, his community is coming together to see that justice is served.

"To be my neighbor, I feel it--I feel for the family, and my heart goes out to them, and I hope they catch him, because he's only out there waiting for somebody else."

Investigators have developed a description on one of the men they are looking for. He is a black male, 24 to 30 years old, about 5 feet 9 inches tall. He was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans and a blue or black jacket with small twists in his hair or a low afro.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the sheriff's office.
