AUGUSTA, Ga.---A man wanted in Jefferson County is in jail after Richmond County police arrested him during a drug bust.
Authorities had been searching for 25-year-old Brandon Heath Ballard since March. Now he's in jail on several charges including drug possession.
Brandon Ballard, a native of Jefferson County, was wanted there on theft and burglary charges.
A tip led authorities to Richmond County, where they found him at a home on Ohio Avenue. They also found a methamphetamine lab there.
Some residents on Ohio Avenue say it's getting scary living in their neighborhood. They say the community is changing for the worse because of all of the police activity.
Many of them were afraid to comment on camera due to the drug bust.
Lt. Robert Chalker with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office says they're glad to get Ballard off the streets.
"We went over there to serve an arrest warrant, arrested him, and during the arrest located a meth lab in the house," Lt. Chalker said. "We also found four marijuana plants growing out in a building behind the residence."
Tonight Ballard faces multiple drug charges including possession.
Lt. Chalker tells us that Ballard is also wanted on several failure to appear charges in Florida and Georgia relating to forgery and burglary and that he has violated his probation.
Lt. Chalker says the official charges of two counts of theft will be filed on Monday, April 30.
