Body found in Clarks Hill Lake

A body was pulled from Clarks Hill Lake over the weekend. On Saturday, coroner Blake Thompson identified it as an adult male.

There's no word on the cause of death or even who this person might be. An autopsy is scheduled for today.

Investigators suspect it may be the body of a missing Columbia County fisherman, Michael Wade Bowman, who went missing a week ago. His truck was found parked at a marina and his boat floating in the water last week at Clarks Hill.

Aiken Public Safety officers have arrested 21-year-old Rodney Bettis and charged him in the armed robbery of the Check n' Go on Richland Avenue.

Man wanted in two robbery attempts

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office needs your help finding a man believed to have robbed two separate convenience stores Saturday.

Investigators say shortly before 11 o'clock Saturday night, a man walked into 4 Seasons Food and Fuel on Jefferson Davis Highway in Clearwater, immediately walked behind the counter, pulled a steak knife on the clerk and removed money from the cash register.

Just a couple of hours before that, investigators say the same man attempted to rob Todd's Shop and Go on the 1100 block of Sand Bar Ferry Road in Beech Island.

In that attempted robbery, the subject demanded money but never received any because an employee grabbed a broom and began swinging it at the man and forced him out of the business.

The suspect was last seen wearing a tan baseball cap, a white t-shirt, red shorts, and white tennis shoes.

The suspect also has a bruise under his left eye and was last seen driving a red Chevrolet S-10 pickup with an American flag license plate on the front bumper.

If you have any information, call the police.
