When it comes to car thefts, a new study says Augusta is one of the worst when compared to cities of similar size.
Augusta is one of five Georgia cities that rank in the top 100 of a recent list that ranks the cities that have the most automobile thefts.
But police say it doesn't have to be that way. A lot of times a few extra precautions can keep your car safe.
Las Vegas is the newest stolen car hotspot according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau.
Atlanta is 35 and Augusta is number 75.
Amazingly, Columbus, Georgia is ranked 23rd.
If someone is really determined to steal your car, there's not a whole lot you can do to stop them. But in many cases, a few simple steps may put a stop to that theft.
You can buy an alarm system, maybe a device that immobilizes you car or possibly even a tracking system which you can help police locate you car if it's stolen.
But the smartest things to do are take out the keys, lock the doors and make sure you park in a well-lit area.
