PINE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) -- A state government official says a former student has surrendered to police after taking a school administrator hostage at an upstate New York high school.
The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly, says the gunman surrendered at Stissing Mountain High School about 10 a.m. Tuesday.
Pine Plains Town Supervisor Gregg Pulver says the gunman is a man in his 40s. He says no shots were fired.
The school about 90 miles north of New York City has been on lockdown.
Armed officers are standing guard at the front door of the school. The handcuffed man was led to an ambulance, where he was checked by paramedics.
