NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C.--- A bank robbery has a trio of local teens in trouble tonight after investigators say they took some money a bank robber dropped on the way out of the North Augusta Wachovia in October.

Investigators say a man went inside the Wachovia on Georgia Avenue and demanded money from the teller. Minutes later he escaped. As he ran away, though, he dropped some of the cash. Later, investigators say, bystanders helped police ID the robber as Sherrod Miller.

Investigators believe 19-year-old David Young, David Terrell and Christopher McDowell stashed some of the stolen cash before helping them identify the car Miller was driving. They say the teens seemed to have the perfect plan to hide some of the dyed money, a plan that led them to a car wash on Five Notch Road in North Augusta.

Investigators believe the teens took the tainted money and put it in a change machine, then cashed the quarters in at another bank.

"I think it was pretty smart the way they handled it," said Wachovia customer Kevin Barker. "They actually cashed it, got coins and took it to another bank, it was pretty smart. But they were aware of the consequences, that's why they changed the dyed money over."

Shortly after, investigators believe the teens' consciences set in. They say after the accused bank robber was caught, all three turned themselves in and confessed to what they'd done.

"I guess they probably thought about the consequences, because it'd be worse getting caught with money that was stolen and probably be headed down the same path as person who actually did the robbery," said Wachovia customer Linda Hodges.

And while the three did turn themselves in, they'll still face their turn in court where a judge will decide their fate. Investigators say all three teens are charged with receiving stolen goods and are out on bond. Because the actual bank robbery is a federal offense, there's no word yet on any other charges to be coming for the teens in the case.
